Use Food to Boost Your Mood
In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
