Foods That Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. Several foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling starved can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
