Steps to make Mitarashi Dango:
  1. Combine all flour and 100 ml of water. Knead well. If it is too sticky, add more flour. If it is too solid, add more water.
  2. I divided the dough and colored one part red.
  3. Here's the fun part! Boil the water (about 1-1.5 liters) while shaping the dough into whatever form you fancy. The traditional shape is round, but I like to play around. Once you finish shaping the dough, plunge it into the boiling water.
  4. Wait about a minute after the pieces float. Scoop them. You can either skewer them or leave them as they are.
  5. How to make the sauce: combine sugar, shoyu, and water until the sugar is dissolved. Add katakuriko slurry bit by bit so it won't clump. When the mixture is boiling, reduce the heat and continue stirring for about three minutes until the mixture thickens.
  6. Pour over the dango, and serve!

Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
