Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
