Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to keep away from them. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are great at battling depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a great protein source.

If you wish to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
