Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try some of these instead!
