Mostly, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are great at fighting depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for elevating your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to feel happier. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Some grains are really excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body.
