Foods That Can Make You Happy
Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to discover, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.
Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood too!
You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
