Use Food to Boost Your Mood

In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
