Foods That Make You Happy

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling famished can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. And now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try several of these instead!
