Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
