Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating some eggs to cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
