Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are terrific at combating depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you become better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
