Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you wish to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Some grains are actually wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
