Foods That Can Make You Happy

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are wonderful at combating depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating some eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a super protein source.

If you wish to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
