Use Food to Boost Your Mood
In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a super protein source.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to combat depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
