Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to discover, are great at battling depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can actually bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
