Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
If you would like to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
