Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nutritious and good for you. There are some foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are great at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for raising your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

If you want to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!
