In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.
It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body.
