Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you know it can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
