Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are great at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Grains can be excellent for overcoming a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try these hints instead!
