Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. Some foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be great for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. And now you know it can help improve your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these suggestions instead!
