Foods That Make You Happy

Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are terrific at battling depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these hints instead!
