Instructions to make Japanese-inspired salmon stack:
  1. Chop up the salmon and green onion and mix together with just a little rice bran oil. Put this in the food mold as the bottom layer of your stack.
  2. Season the cucumber slices to taste, mix with the mirin and soy sauce, and add as the second layer of your stack. Sorry the soy sauce is the last ingredient - I forgot when it I was initially listing them out.
  3. Mash up the avocado, season to taste, then blend in the wasabi (use more if you want more punch). Spoon into the stack as your third layer.
  4. Remove mold, top with sprouts and fish eggs (I prefer the small tobiko)
  5. Serve as is or with sides of your choice to the girlfriend, who is relieved to find she is not eating pizza yet again.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!
