Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods really do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
