How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to find out, are great at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
